My orchid.

dayinthelyfe:

One year ago, my mom got an orchid. We left it outside when we went on vacation. When we got back, the pot had been tipped over, and the orchid had been sitting on the pavement, roots upward. My dad thought it was dead and wanted to throw it away. I said no. For a year now, I’ve watered the dying orchid in our kitchen windowsill. I watered it back to health, making sure it didn’t have too much or too little sunlight. The leaves grew back, but it hadn’t flowered.

Now, For the first time, it’s flowering again. But for the last time. All the leaves have died, and one last bloom is the flower’s final gift back to us.

I’m thankful for life.
